PCMCIA SATA RAID
PCMCIAのeSATAカードを買ってみた。別にRAIDじゃなくても良かったんだけど、たまたまRAID対応だったので、RAIDも試してみた。
玄人志向：SATA2RE2-CB (Sil3124-1) ドライブ：Hitachi 320GB SATA 7200rpm (細かい型番忘れました) Windows XP SP2 Thinkpad T42
休止状態とかは使えない模様。最初から差した状態で本体の電源を入れないとうまく認識しない事がある。さて速度の方はということで、まず本体側の2.5inch (Fujitsu 120GB)。いちおうデフラグ直後。

次にいよいよRAIDでミラーリング。

うーむ、Writeがことごく遅いね。リードはまずまずか。次にRAID-0ストライピング(Chunk size:128KB)

なんじゃこりゃ。ライトは若干速いけどそれでも2.5inchに負けてるし、リードはミラーリングより遅い。最後にシングルドライブ(Contiguous)。

結論：このカードではRAID-0は無意味。データ保護が必要ならRAID-1。そうでなければContiguousかConcatenatedで使うのが吉。今後のドライバのチューニングに期待かな。ちなみにジオメトリは特殊のようで、このカードで使用したドライブを、普通のカードにつないでも読めなかった。なので大切なデータを入れるならば安全のためにカードは2枚買っておいた方が良さそうだ。ドライバはLinux用やMacOS用もある(試してないけど)。
